Artefact 3 - Recording Stage

Here I will describe how I recorded dialogue, foley, and discuss what props and microphones I used.

Vent Sounds

I mostly made use of a metal sheet at the college to get the metallic banging sounds that I wanted, almost every sound heard in the vent, including the vent opening sound, the player crawling, the ladder and all the extra banging noises in the clip were made through use of a large metal sheet.

Footsteps

The footsteps were recorded using the same metal sheet, but placed flat on the floor, this gave a good sound that fit the environment of the game.

Foley Microphone

All of the foley was recorded using a Rode NTG2 Shotgun condenser microphone, this was recommended to me for recording foley, as it will pick up what it is directly pointed at and not much else.

Dialogue

Dialogue was recorded using an AKG c414, as it has a good frequency response for voices.  All of the dialogue was done by my classmate Nathan M, in the Post Production stage I describe how I used pitch shifters to make his voice fit the characters.
